It is a quieter day on the academics beat, but the one item on the calendar is a big one for anyone who believes Georgia Tech is at its best when students are building things with their hands.
TechMade Symposium: Experiential Learning in the GT Makerverse
Georgia Tech’s maker community is coming together for the TechMade Symposium: Experiential Learning in the GT Makerverse, a free, day-long gathering on Friday, October 30 at the GT Exhibition Hall. The morning session opens at 9:30 a.m. with coffee and bagels, rolls into Makerspace Lightning Talks at 10:00 a.m., and continues with a Future of Makerspaces panel at 10:30 a.m. before lunch and breakout sessions. The afternoon shifts to makerspace student leaders at the OUESS Experiential Learning Summit, capped by a Makerspace and Project Showcase at 1:00 p.m. Students, faculty, staff, and campus leaders are all welcome, and the food is free.
The lightning talks double as a tour of just how deep Tech’s maker ecosystem now runs. Spaces on the slate include the ADC XR Makerspace, the Aero Maker Space, the AI Makerspace, the BME Design Shop, IPaT Labs, the Flowers Invention Studio, the Interactive Product Design Lab, the Interdisciplinary Design Commons (the HIVE), and the Materials Innovation and Learning Laboratory (the MILL). Seeing them all in one room is a reminder that hands-on building is not confined to a single college at Tech, it is woven through the whole Institute.
The industry panel brings outside perspective to the conversation about where makerspaces go next, with Dariel Tellez, additive manufacturing research engineer at Siemens; John Boezi, fractional director of engineering at Boezi; Lorraine LaGasse, program director at Decatur Makers; and Addison Shelton, CEO of Kicker Design. The organizers frame the day around connecting, sharing ideas, working through common challenges, and finding opportunities to collaborate so the maker ecosystem keeps growing.
