Tuesday Thoughts: “Shrug”
From the Rumble Seat’s weekly column captured the mood after a 44-11 win over Mercer with one word: shrug. The offense finally topped 400 yards for the first time this season, the defense held Mercer to field goals when it mattered, and two turnovers broke the game open. Justice Haynes was the headliner with 22 carries for 141 yards and two scores plus a receiving touchdown, while Alberto Mendoza turned in exactly the efficient, accurate, productive game you want from him – and looked genuinely sharp pushing the ball downfield.
The nitpicks are real, though: run defense was sloppy, the offensive line got pushed around by an FCS front, and PATs still are not going off cleanly. As the column puts it, Stanford is the bare minimum at this stage of the program, and anything less than an emphatic win would be a bad omen. Read the whole thing.
