Energy Research Takes Center Stage: Georgia Tech Hydrogen Day
The Institute announced the inaugural Georgia Tech Hydrogen Day, a two-day gathering that gets underway October 7 with a Southeast Hydrogen Energy Alliance networking reception at the Marcus Nanotechnology Building. The program brings together senior leaders from industry, government, and academia around a single question: how to accelerate the commercial adoption of hydrogen. On October 8, the Southeast Hydrogen Roadmapping Forum digs into the technical, economic, infrastructure, and market barriers facing hydrogen deployment across transportation, ports, rail, and heavy industry, while an afternoon leadership session convenes executives from Georgia Tech, the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Hyundai, Southern Company, and Plug Power. The day closes with the NARA Hydrogen Research Showcase, where attendees can tour labs and talk directly with the researchers doing the work. It is a strong illustration of Tech serving as the convening hub for the region’s energy economy.
Ivan Allen College Connects Students With Alumni
The Ivan Allen Advantage Speaker Series returns October 13 with a fireside chat featuring two distinguished alumni. Gene Kansas, M.S. Digital Media 2016, is founder and CEO of Gene Kansas Commercial Real Estate and has spent more than two decades protecting and reimagining Atlanta’s cultural spaces, including the Constellations shared workspace in the restored Southern Schoolbook Building on Auburn Avenue. He is joined by Paul Oh, B.S. International Affairs and Modern Languages 2012, vice president of public policy and external affairs at the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Georgia Tech 40 Under 40 class of 2026. The conversation runs from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Scholar’s Event Theatre at Price Gilbert Memorial Library, and students who RSVP can compete for a limited number of one-on-one and small-group mentorship slots.
Also newly posted: a Hawks x IAC Career Trek on October 30, giving 30 students a behind-the-scenes tour of State Farm Arena and the Atlanta Hawks corporate offices alongside IAC alumni working in sports and entertainment. Interest forms are due October 23 at 4:30 p.m., and completing the form does not guarantee a spot, so students should not wait.
Careers in Sustainability: A Cross-College Panel
The College of Design and Ivan Allen College are teaming up with the Georgia Tech Career Center for Planning for Tomorrow, Shaping a Sustainable Future on October 14 at 6 p.m. in the Caddell Building Flex Space. Panelists working across environmental, economic, and social sustainability will trace their career paths and talk through emerging opportunities in climate resilience, sustainable transportation, environmental justice, green infrastructure, community planning, and policy. A moderated discussion is followed by open Q&A, and while the event is tailored to Design and Ivan Allen students, it is open to all majors.
Protecting the Hive: Fall Flu Clinics
Stamps Health Services published its full fall flu clinic calendar, with free vaccinations for students who have paid the student health fee. Faculty and staff can also schedule an appointment. Clinics run from 3 to 7 p.m. on the following dates:
Getting vaccinated reduces the chance of catching the flu, lessens the severity of illness, and lowers the risk of hospitalization. With midterms and travel season ahead, it is a small investment in a healthy semester.
