A Week of Professional Development and Research Innovation at Georgia Tech

As we head into the fall semester, Georgia Tech continues to showcase its commitment to connecting students with real-world opportunities and advancing groundbreaking research. This week’s announcements highlight three exciting events that exemplify the Institute’s dedication to academic excellence and professional growth.

Modern Languages Alumni Share Career Insights

The School of Modern Languages Alumni Career Panel is coming to campus on Thursday, October 1st, offering students an invaluable chance to hear from successful graduates working across diverse industries and language specialties. This event brings together alumni who will discuss how their Modern Languages experiences at Georgia Tech have shaped their professional trajectories, the critical role that language and intercultural skills play in today’s global marketplace, and practical advice for current students navigating their own career paths.

The panel will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Bill Moore Student Success Center, Presidents Suite A & B. Registration is required, and interested attendees can sign up through the event page. This is an excellent opportunity for undergraduates, graduate students, and alumni to expand their professional networks and discover how humanities-based education opens doors in unexpected sectors.

Hands-On Training in Wearable Medical Device Innovation

Georgia Tech’s Wearable Intelligent System and Healthcare (WISH) Center and K-GTSEC are hosting a two-day Short Course on Soft Sensors and Electronics for Wearable Medical Devices on October 1st and 2nd. This intensive training program is designed for engineers, researchers, and industry professionals who want to master the emerging field of flexible electronics and soft sensor technology for healthcare applications.

Participants will engage with expert-led lectures combined with hands-on laboratory sessions, gaining practical experience in:

  • Soft materials and device fabrication techniques
  • Creating laser-induced graphene strain sensors
  • Integrating sensors with wearable electronics
  • Evaluating device performance and reliability

The course runs October 1st from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and October 2nd from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Pettit Microelectronics Building on campus. Pricing is tiered for Georgia Tech affiliates ($200), academic and government professionals ($400), and industry professionals ($800). Registration is now open.

Microelectronics Day Showcases Institute’s Innovation Ecosystem

On Tuesday, November 3rd, the Institute for Matter and Systems will host Microelectronics Day, a full-day event celebrating Georgia Tech’s leadership in semiconductor research and advanced electronics. This gathering brings together researchers, students, industry partners, and external collaborators to explore breakthrough innovations across eight key areas:

  • Semiconductor Devices
  • Advanced Packaging
  • Heterogeneous Integration
  • Materials
  • Bioelectronics
  • Extreme-Environment Electronics
  • Fabrication, Characterization and Shared Research Tools
  • Emerging Electronic Systems

Running from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Marcus Nanotechnology Building, Microelectronics Day offers unparalleled access to leading faculty researchers, shared-user facilities, and industry collaboration opportunities. Whether you’re interested in exploring cutting-edge research or identifying partnership possibilities, this event is a must-attend showcase of Georgia Tech’s microelectronics excellence.
