Georgia Tech Sports Roundup — August 31, 2026

Georgia Tech Athletics is gearing up for an exciting fall season, with football taking center stage this week. The Yellow Jackets open the 2026 season on September 3 at 8 p.m. against Colorado at Bobby Dodd Stadium in the annual Whiteout Game, airing live on ESPN. The matchup is a rematch of last year’s season opener, when Georgia Tech won 27-20 in Boulder — with quarterback Haynes King scoring the game-winning touchdown on a 45-yard run. The Yellow Jackets enter the new campaign looking to build on a strong 9-4 season.

One player to watch heading into the opener is senior cornerback Tre Swilling, son of College Football Hall of Famer Pat Swilling and one of five Swilling family members to play at Georgia Tech. A four-year starter who appeared in 40 of his 42 career games, Swilling has accumulated approximately 109 tackles, 23 passes defended, 5.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and 2 interceptions over his career.

Georgia Tech Athletics fans will have a new way to stay connected with their programs this fall. Jackets All-Access, the half-hour behind-the-scenes TV show, returns beginning Wednesday, September 2 at 7:30 p.m. on ANF (Channel 46), covering Football and Men’s and Women’s Basketball. Episodes are also available on the ANF+ streaming channel on Roku, Amazon Fire, and Apple TVs, as well as on Peachtree Sports Network (Channel 17.2).

On the volleyball court, the Yellow Jackets had a perfect opening weekend at the Cyclone Invitational at Iowa State, going 3-0. The team swept Northern Iowa 3-0 and Iowa State 3-0 before defeating Loyola-Chicago 3-1. Sophomore Laura Perugini-Bieleski was the standout performer, recording 42 kills across the three matches.

In tennis, a Georgia Tech alumna — a two-time All-American — opened play at the 2026 U.S. Open in Flushing, New York, after earning her spot by winning the U.S. Open Wild Card challenge in August. She is the fourth Yellow Jacket alumna to compete at the U.S. Open and the first since Irina Falconi in 2014.
