Georgia Tech Sports Digest: Homecoming vs. Boston College, Hoops Tipoff Nears

The Jackets regroup after a 34–24 loss at Virginia Tech and welcome Boston College to the Flats for homecoming, while basketball season opens in less than two weeks.

Homecoming week is here, and it arrives with the Jackets needing a reset after a rough Thursday in Blacksburg. Here is the latest from around Georgia Tech athletics.

Picking Up the Pieces After Virginia Tech

The 34–24 loss to Virginia Tech stung, and the fan reaction was immediate in the GTSwarm postgame thread, where the first half drew most of the criticism. The silver lining was the passing game: Alberto Mendoza set a career high at 29-of-38 for 335 yards, and receivers Jordan Allen (120 yards) and Dalen Penson (86) posted career bests of their own. With the season sliding, some in the fan base have also started asking harder questions about the program’s direction — see the “Should Key Go?” poll and the Moving Forward — Looking Ahead to 2027 discussion.

Boston College Comes to the Flats for Homecoming

From the Rumble Seat’s weekly breakdown calls Boston College’s season “weird” — a win over Pitt, a close loss to SMU, and ugly escapes against Maine and Rutgers. The Eagles are 98th in total offense but ride a defense ranked 42nd nationally, giving up 328.8 yards and 23 points a game with a pass defense among the best in the country. Junior quarterback Mason McKenzie leads them in rushing with 444 yards, former Yellow Jacket Evan Dickens is right behind him at 293, and sophomore Landon Wright is averaging 30.4 yards a catch — a problem for a Tech secondary that has struggled with the deep ball. The Power T helmets return for homecoming. Read the full preview, and follow along in the GT vs. BC media thread.

Basketball Season Is Almost Here

Georgia Tech announced its halftime entertainment lineup for the 2026–27 basketball seasons, with the women opening Nov. 2 and the men following Nov. 3. See the full schedule of acts. Fans are already trading seats and giveaways ahead of tipoff — there are four free tickets up for grabs for the opener against Hampton, and the 26–27 Tech Ticket Exchange is the place to buy, sell, or swap for the year.
