Tuesday Thoughts 9/15: Juiceless

From The Rumble Seat’s weekly column does not sugarcoat the trip to Knoxville: the offense did not find the end zone until late in the third quarter, by which point the game was gone, and the defense held up for a while before Tennessee ran away with it. Justice Haynes earned Above The Line honors after scoring twice — once on the ground, once through the air — and looked like the only Jacket who could match Tennessee’s size and speed. Special teams, meanwhile, have matched the offense in touchdowns, which the author notes is either great news for one unit or damning for the other. The bigger complaint is about urgency: red zone trips that stall, third-and-longs that turn into explosive plays the other way, and penalties killing critical drives. A 30-Year Look Back at How Tech Got Here

In a guest opinion piece at From The Rumble Seat, Wreck Talk traces the arc from George O’Leary’s departure through Chan Gailey, Paul Johnson, Geoff Collins, and now Brent Key — and lands on an uncomfortable coincidence: every one of those tenures hovers right around a 57% winning percentage. The piece credits Key for real year-over-year improvement (six regular season wins in 2024, seven in 2025, nine in 2026) and for beating a top-five Miami team, while raising pointed questions about staff turnover, the offensive coordinator situation, and whether hiring “Tech Men” has become its own kind of blind spot.
