Tuesday brought a headline worthy of the Institute’s reputation: a brand-new online master’s degree in artificial intelligence, approved and on the way. Around it, the campus calendar filled with showcases, info sessions, and conversations that show just how broadly Georgia Tech is thinking about technology and its responsible use. Here’s what crossed our desk on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
Georgia Tech Announces New Online Master’s Degree in Artificial Intelligence
The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia has approved Georgia Tech’s new Online Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (OMS AI), a degree built for working professionals who need to analyze and apply AI inside their own industries. Rather than focusing purely on technical specialization, the interdisciplinary program pairs foundational AI knowledge with discipline-specific concentrations, and threads responsible use — ethics, privacy, safety, accountability, and governance — throughout the curriculum. “Georgia Tech has always prepared people to lead through periods of technological change, and AI is the newest iteration,” said Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Raheem Beyah. The initial launch is planned for 2027 with six concentrations: AI in Business, Decision-Support AI, Foundations of AI Theory, Health AI, Human-AI Interactions, and Predictive AI. Every student will complete an AI practicum with a company or organization, and the program is designed to keep evolving as technology and workforce needs shift. President Angel Cabrera framed the ambition plainly: Georgia Tech is “committed to developing a new generation of leaders who can harness the power of AI to improve the human condition.” More details are expected later this year.
