George Tower | Scheller Tower Opens in Tech Square
Georgia Tech celebrated the completion of George Tower | Scheller Tower, a new shared home for industrial engineering and business education in the heart of Tech Square. The ribbon-cutting brings the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering together with the Scheller College of Business in a single environment built for collaboration among students, faculty, researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry partners.
The project was made possible by support from the state of Georgia and the generosity of alumni families: Bill and Penny George, Ernest “Ernie” Scheller, and H. Milton “Milt” Stewart and Carolyn Stewart. “People will notice the striking architecture, the classrooms, and the technology inside the new towers,” said President Ángel Cabrera. “What matters most is what that design enables — the learning and exchange of ideas between students, the multidisciplinary collaborations between engineering and business faculty, and the support of innovation and entrepreneurship at the heart of Tech Square.”
Designed for the next 50 years, the towers use advanced systems and sustainable design strategies that significantly reduce energy and water use. The building recently earned LEED Platinum certification — the highest level awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council — along with a 4 Peach rating, the top mark in the Georgia Peach Green Building Rating System.
Career and Professional Development
The Career Center and the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts are hosting a Graduate Internship Data Sharing Session online on Tuesday, Sept. 29 from noon to 2 p.m. The interactive session digs into where and how Ivan Allen graduate students are interning, which employers and industries are engaging them, emerging participation trends, and how the Career Center and the college can work together to strengthen internship access.
Women in Tech at Georgia Tech follows on Wednesday, Sept. 30 with Acing the Interview with AI, a hands-on workshop from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Rafael Bras Room on the third floor of the Student Center. Attendees will learn to use AI to research companies and roles, build an interview narrative with the STAR method and technical storytelling, run mock interviews with real-time feedback, and recognize where AI helps and where it can hurt. Bring a laptop.
Wellness and Campus Life
In recognition of World Mental Health Day, Tap and Paint on Friday, Oct. 9 pairs Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) Tapping with guest practitioner Mitsuko Ito and a free-flow painting session at Paper and Clay on 4th Street. No artistic experience required — just a willingness to step away from the workday and recharge.
Campus Recreation’s annual Halloween Holla 5K returns Friday, Oct. 30, starting at the Campus Recreation Center and following the Pi Mile loop through campus — zombies included. Check-in opens at 6 a.m. and the race starts at 7 a.m., with awards for top finishers and prizes for the best costumes. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the local community are all invited.
Graduate Program Info Sessions
The School of City and Regional Planning released a deep bench of online information sessions for prospective graduate students, each hosted by program leadership alongside alumni and academic program manager Anna Traykova. Every session runs on Zoom and includes time for questions.
