Celebrate Labor Day Weekend in Atlanta

With campus closing on Monday, September 7, there’s plenty to do around Atlanta this long weekend. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets volleyball will host three matches at O’Keefe Gymnasium: Southern Indiana on Friday, September 4 at 4 p.m.; Campbell on Saturday, September 5 at 4 p.m.; and Xavier on Sunday, September 6 at 1 p.m. Beyond campus, the Aflac Kickoff Game featuring Auburn vs. Baylor takes place Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium with free fan activities, Dragon Con kicks off its legendary pop culture celebration with a free parade on Peachtree Street at 10 a.m., the Atlanta Hip Hop Day Festival brings free performances to Historic Fourth Ward Park, and the Stone Mountain Lasershow dazzles audiences Monday evening at 9:30 p.m. Explore all the weekend options.

Fall Teaching & Learning Workshops

Georgia Tech’s Digital Learning Team and PACE computing support are offering faculty and students valuable professional development this fall. On Friday, September 4 at 1 p.m. EST, join a special Gradescope webinar exploring how to leverage handwritten assessments for authentic evaluation while maintaining grading efficiency in an era of AI. The webinar features faculty panelists sharing real-world strategies for consistent feedback across teaching teams. Advanced Computing Workshops Throughout Fall

PACE (Partnership for an Advanced Computing Environment) is expanding its training offerings for researchers and students. Starting Friday, September 18 at 10:30 a.m. EST, the “Using Containers at PACE” workshop teaches Apptainer containerization for portable software workflows—with repeat sessions scheduled for October 16, November 13, and December 18. For those new to high-performance computing, “PACE – Linux 101” introduces fundamental Linux and Bash skills essential for working on PACE managed clusters, with sessions scheduled for Thursday, October 29 and Tuesday, December 1 at noon/1 p.m. EST respectively.
