Yellow Jackets Gain Behind-the-Scenes Experience at FIFA World Cup
Three Georgia Tech students recently wrapped up an unforgettable internship with Host Broadcast Services (HBS) at the 2026 FIFA World Cup held in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Santiago Calvino, Daniela Ruiz, and Grace Inagaki worked all eight matches in Atlanta, contributing to broadcasts that reached over 26 million viewers during the Argentina vs. England semifinal alone.
Inagaki, a fourth-year biomedical engineering student, and Calvino, a second-year economics and international affairs student, served on the Commentary Control Room team, managing equipment setup and audio levels for commentators. Ruiz, a second-year literature, media, and communication student, worked as part of the media liaison team, directing broadcasters and serving as the first point of contact for media professionals. The students emphasized the professionalism required to execute flawlessly in such a high-stakes environment, where real-time problem-solving and technical precision were essential.
Their experience underscores the value of Georgia Tech’s Career Center in connecting students with major opportunities. Dana Pudenz, employer connections manager, noted that companies recognize Georgia Tech’s reputation for developing well-rounded graduates across all majors. Students interested in similar career opportunities are encouraged to attend the All-Majors Career Fair on September 14-15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a Faculty Employer Networking Breakfast from 8:30-9:30 a.m. on both days.
