Georgia Tech Strengthens Atlanta’s Innovation Ecosystem

Georgia Tech continues to solidify Atlanta’s position as a premier technology and innovation hub through strategic partnerships and community-driven initiatives. Tech Square Tech Hop returns on Friday, August 14, during ATL Tech Week with an even larger footprint than last year’s 940 attendees. This free, public event transforms Tech Square into a walkable showcase of startups, research, and entrepreneurship, featuring live demonstrations, interactive exhibits, research showcases, and food experiences from local entrepreneurs. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and offers the perfect opportunity to connect with founders, researchers, investors, and community leaders shaping Atlanta’s future. Additionally, Avant South, hosted by Georgia Tech, returns October 12–13 with a focus on “AI in Action,” bringing together industry leaders, academics, government officials, and startup founders to explore transformative technologies. Together, these events underscore Georgia Tech’s commitment to accelerating innovation and strengthening the region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Prepare for Fall Move-In Traffic and Parking Changes

Campus community members should expect significant traffic delays beginning August 15 as new and returning students arrive for move-in. New residents move in August 15–16, with returning residents following the week of August 17. Plan accordingly for congestion in these key areas:

  • West Campus
  • Techwood Drive
  • Centennial Olympic Park Drive (East Campus and North Avenue move-in)
  • Tenth Street (graduate housing)

Several parking areas will be reserved for move-in use only during this period. If you typically park in W10, ER54, WR29, or ER51, please note the designated alternate parking locations listed in the move-in advisory. All drivers should follow posted signage carefully to ensure smooth check-in and unloading operations.

Planning Your Retirement? Join an HR Information Session

Georgia Tech employees considering retirement should mark their calendars for a Planning to Retire Information Session on Tuesday, August 11, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Rafael Bras Meeting Room at the John Lewis Student Center. This session, hosted by Georgia Tech Human Resources, offers valuable insights for USG career employees entering their final planned years with the university. Topics include retirement account best practices, resources available to retiring employees, and direct access to benefits experts who can answer your questions. Space is limited, so registration is required and closes Monday, August 10, at 8 p.m.

Commercialize Your Research: IP Office Hours Available Monthly

Researchers and entrepreneurs with patentable inventions should take advantage of IP and Commercialization Office Hours, held on the second Tuesday of each month in the IBB atrium. Whether you’re interested in protecting your invention through patents, licensing your research to an existing company, launching a startup, or exploring Georgia Tech’s commercialization resources, experts from the Office of Technology Licensing and Quadrant-i are available to guide you. Meet with Cynthia Sundell, Harold Solomon, and Kashmira Kulkarni to discuss turning your innovations into real-world impact.
