Georgia Tech Research Roundup — August 25, 2026

Georgia Tech’s bi-weekly Research Bulletin for August 25, 2026 highlights a strong lineup of federal funding opportunities and campus events for faculty and researchers heading into the fall semester.

IES Education Research Grants

The Institute of Education Sciences (IES) is accepting applications under two programs for FY 2027. The Statistical and Research Methodology in Education program (84.305D) offers core grants of up to $900,000 over three years for the development of new and improved statistical methods for education research, as well as Toolkit grants of up to $350,000 over two years. Letters of intent are due September 3, 2026, with full applications due October 1. A companion program, Research Training Programs in the Education Sciences (84.305B), supports Early Career Development and Mentoring awards of up to $500,000 over four years and Education Research Program grants of up to $800,000 over three years. Faculty interested in either IES opportunity can contact Erin Bryant at erin.bryant@gatech.edu.

NSF Expeditions in Computing

The National Science Foundation is soliciting preliminary proposals for its Expeditions in Computing program, which funds large-scale, multidisciplinary projects pushing the frontiers of computer and information science. Awards can reach up to $15,000,000 over seven years. Priority areas include new architectures for intelligence, neuroscience-inspired approaches to learning and reasoning, physical intelligence and advanced robotics, next-generation communication and networking, and mathematical theories of how AI systems learn and generalize. Preliminary proposals are due December 2, 2026.

Upcoming Events

Georgia Tech researchers are invited to two notable events this fall. On September 28, the 2026 Tech AI Symposium and AI Career Fair will be held in person at the Georgia Tech Exhibition Hall, offering an opportunity to engage with industry partners and explore AI-focused career paths.
