A Transformed Dining Experience Returns to Campus
Georgia Tech students returning to campus this fall will discover a significantly enhanced dining landscape. Brittain Dining Hall has reopened after its 2024 renovation, featuring seven full-service stations and extended hours from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Friday. The John Lewis Student Center is introducing exciting new dining concepts operated by Craveworthy Brands, replacing existing vendors with offerings including Big Chicken, Krafted Burger, Fresh Brothers Pizza, TAIM Mediterranean Kitchen, and Dirty Dough—many with expanded evening hours until 11:30 p.m. weekdays and new weekend service.
Beyond the dining hall, Tech Dining continues to innovate across campus. Tech It To Go will transition to a cashierless, AI-powered operation in early September, with a new micromarket opening in the Bud and Val Peterson Residence Hall. Illy Coffee is expanding to West Village and Carnegie Kitchen, while California Pizza Kitchen is installing a vending machine in the Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons. Autonomous food delivery is also making a comeback with Avride providing seamless ordering through Grubhub integration.
Georgia Tech’s Shield Research Environment Achieves Federal Cybersecurity Excellence
Georgia Tech’s Shield secure research enclave has earned a Level 2 Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC), positioning the Institute among a select group of organizations with independently validated cybersecurity controls. The assessment, conducted by a Certified Third-Party Assessor Organization (C3PAO), awarded Shield a perfect score of 110 out of 110 required security practices for protecting Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and supporting defense-related research.
This achievement represents months of dedicated collaboration across Georgia Tech’s Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and the Office of Information Technology’s Cybersecurity department. The certification strengthens the Institute’s ability to support existing Department of Defense-sponsored research and compete for future opportunities requiring federal cybersecurity compliance. As Bill Dracos, Georgia Tech’s Chief Research Operations Officer, noted: “Strong research depends on strong operational foundations. This certification validates the systems, processes, and partnerships we’ve built across Georgia Tech to safeguard sensitive information, support our researchers, and ensure we remain a trusted partner for government-sponsored research.”
Study Abroad Opportunities Await Computing Students
The College of Computing is hosting information sessions for students interested in international summer study experiences. Berlin Summer 2027 information sessions will be held on Tuesday, September 8 at 11 a.m. in CCB 101 and Thursday, October 22 at 11 a.m. in CCB 052. Students interested in Barcelona can attend sessions on Thursday, September 17 at 11 a.m. in CCB 101 or Thursday, October 29 at 11 a.m. in CCB 052. Both programs offer exceptional opportunities to advance your computing education while experiencing vibrant European tech hubs. Entrepreneurship and Innovation Opportunities This Fall
CREATE-X’s “Meet Your Co-founder” speed networking event is coming on Monday, September 14 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Rafael Bras Meeting Room at the John Lewis Student Center. This dynamic event brings together students across all disciplines to form startup teams, whether you have a groundbreaking idea or valuable skills to contribute. Participants will gain access to CREATE-X resources and structured guidance to transform ideas into viable ventures—this is your gateway to entrepreneurial success at Georgia Tech.
Sustainability and Community Engagement Throughout the Semester
Georgia Tech’s commitment to sustainability continues with several engaging opportunities. The Plant Library invites students, faculty, and staff to participate in weekly sessions every Friday that classes are in session from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Room 357 of the Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons. Participants can plant seeds, take propagations, nurture plants, and take home houseplants—while supporting the Institute’s partnership with the Atlanta Botanical Garden for recycling nursery pots.
The Community Garden is also hosting a variety of engaging activities this fall. Painting tote bags will take place on Wednesday, September 2 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., followed by weeding and repotting on Tuesday, September 15 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Students can also enjoy coffee in the garden on Thursday, September 24 and participate in garden planting activities on Monday, September 28.
