George Tower | Scheller Tower Officially Opens in Tech Square

Georgia Tech celebrated the completion of George Tower | Scheller Tower, the new shared home of the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering and the Scheller College of Business. Located in the heart of Tech Square, the building is designed to bring students, faculty, researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry partners together, with an eye on fields from advanced manufacturing and AI to healthcare, supply chains, and entrepreneurship. The project was made possible by state support and the generosity of alumni Bill and Penny George, Ernest “Ernie” Scheller, and H. Milton “Milt” and Carolyn Stewart, along with many other donors. “What matters most is what that design enables,” said President Ángel Cabrera, pointing to learning, multidisciplinary collaboration, and entrepreneurship. Designed for the next 50 years, the building earned LEED Platinum certification and a 4 Peach rating, the top marks from the U.S. Green Building Council and the Georgia Peach Green Building Rating System. Transforming Campus: Latest Construction Milestones

A new Institute update rounds up how the campus is evolving. Recently completed projects include 141 new bike racks and 400 micromobility parking spaces, an athletic therapy center and esports arena at the Campus Recreation Center, a 6,500-square-foot Geosynthetic Institute Lab on Means Street, the 860-bed Bud and Val Peterson Residence Hall (home to Tech’s first 24-hour cashierless market), and a renovated Rich Building for the new School for Arts, Entertainment, and Creative Technologies. In progress: the Creative Quarter, Smith and Howell residence hall renovations, and O’Keefe Building hardscape work. On the horizon: the Bobby Dodd Fan Experience renovation, with 12,500 new chairback seats, a new videoboard and sound system, and premium seating upgrades ahead of the 2027 season, plus a 200,000-square-foot Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering building at North Avenue and Tech Parkway. Leaders in Progress & Service Info Session

Undergraduates curious about the Leaders in Progress & Service (LP&S) Graduation Distinction can join a virtual information session on Tuesday, October 6, from 11 a.m. to noon. The session covers program goals, requirements, experiences, and how to get involved, and is geared toward students who have not yet completed a foundational course. 2027 Annual Safety Training for Facilities Teams

Environmental Health & Safety has posted the first sessions of its 2027 General Safety Annual Training Program, an 11-week initiative for Infrastructure & Operations employees. Topics include fall protection, lockout/tagout, electrical safety, confined space entry, PPE, and ergonomics. Part 1 sessions are scheduled from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on January 12 (Area 1), January 19 (Area 2), and January 26 (Area 3). Registration is through Genius LMS.
