Wednesday, September 16, 2026, brought a strong day of news from the Flats, from national recognition of the Institute’s value to a new season of performances and a fresh call for student entrepreneurs. Here is your daily roundup of Georgia Tech academics and research news.

Forbes and Niche Rank Tech Among the Nation’s Best

Georgia Tech continues to earn distinction for academic strength and return on investment, landing at No. 5 among public schools and No. 27 overall on Forbes’ 2027 list of America’s Best Colleges. Tuition at Tech is the lowest among the top 30 schools on the list, and President Ángel Cabrera noted in his recent Institute Address that, adjusted for inflation, attending Georgia Tech this year is nearly $4,400 cheaper for Georgia residents than it was in 2019 — a 27% cost reduction. Forbes’ methodology also weighs graduation rates and alumni earnings, where Tech shines: 94% of students graduate within six years, 75% within four, and median salaries 10 years after graduation exceed the national average for other four-year institutions by 73%. Forbes highlighted artificial intelligence’s growing role in higher education, and Tech’s approach to weaving AI into the curriculum contributed to its place on the New Ivies list and its highest C-suite rating. Niche.com also gave the Institute an A+ grade and ranked it the No. 4 public university in the country. “A Georgia Tech education is one of the smartest investments a family can make,” Cabrera said. GT Arts Invites Audiences to ‘Imagine More’

Creativity has always been essential to discovery at Georgia Tech, and the 2026-27 GT Arts Presents season leans into that idea with a lineup built around the theme Imagine More. Tickets are on sale now. The season opens Friday, Sept. 18, with Atlanta’s own Ruby Velle and the Soulphonics, whose modern take on classic soul reached No. 4 on the iTunes R&B chart, with the winning student group from the GT Arts and Georgia Tech Musicians Network Battle of the Bands opening the show. On Friday, Oct. 9, cellist and composer Okorie Johnson — performing as OkCello — combines live looping, improvisation, and storytelling with four large-scale video avatars of himself onstage, building a solo cello set into a full multimedia band. Later in the season, Mario the Maker Magician blends magic, robotics, engineering, and comedy into an all-ages show about curiosity and invention. “The season intentionally welcomes a wide range of audiences by offering performances that appeal to different passions and perspectives,” said Associate Vice Provost for the Arts Jason Freeman.
