New Interim CHRO Brings Extensive HR Leadership Experience to Georgia Tech
Karin Elliott, vice chancellor for Human Resources for the University System of Georgia, has been named interim vice president and chief human resources officer for Georgia Tech, effective September 1. Elliott brings over 18 years of HR leadership experience, including four years at Kennesaw State University and more than a decade at the USG System Office, where she has led HR strategy, policy, and compliance for 25 public colleges and universities supporting nearly 382,000 students and 48,000 employees. She will report directly to Tricia Chastain, executive vice president for Administration and Finance, and will lead the Georgia Tech Human Resources office during this transition period. Week of Welcome Welcomes New Yellow Jackets with Over 300 Events
Georgia Tech’s Week of Welcome, featuring more than 300 events, is in full swing, offering first-year, graduate, and transfer students countless opportunities to connect with peers, explore campus, and discover student organizations before classes begin. From the high-energy “Rock, Ramble, and Roll” event on Monday to the New Student Convocation on Sunday, the week-long celebration provides both large signature events and intimate 30-person-or-fewer gatherings designed to help students navigate their new surroundings. Highlights include the Yellow Jacket Mega Mixer, Taste of Tech Square, RecFest, RATS Night, and a House Party at Bobby Dodd Stadium. Research Community Resources and Professional Development Opportunities
Georgia Tech’s academic support offices are preparing for the new academic year with valuable workshops and training sessions. The Office of Postdoctoral Services will host a National Postdoctoral Appreciation Week picnic on September 23 in the Bio-Tech Quad Courtyard, celebrating 150 years of postdoc excellence in America. Meanwhile, the Georgia Tech Library is offering several essential research skills workshops, including sessions on avoiding plagiarism and citing references correctly on August 31, and Introduction to Zotero citation management workshops on September 2 and September 30. These free sessions help researchers and students build strong foundational skills in research integrity and organization.

The Transfer Talks Career and Résumé Workshop on November 12 provides transfer students with practical guidance on strengthening their résumés, highlighting their unique experiences, and connecting their backgrounds to professional opportunities in their chosen fields. Additionally, faculty and staff can explore emerging technology tools through Georgia Tech’s technology training initiatives, including Exploring Microsoft Copilot Chat sessions led by Microsoft experts on August 26, helping the institute community stay current with evolving AI and productivity tools.
