Today we celebrate the birthday of illustrious Georgia Tech graduate George P. Burdell. After earning his bachelor's and masters in mechanical engineering from Tech and earning varsity letters in basketball *and* football, Burdell flew twelve missions over Europe during World War II, served on the board for Mad Magazine, has signed thousands of rebate checks for Kraft foods, and is Georgia Tech's current Dean of Humanities and Fine Arts Emeritus. It's no surprise he led the voting for Time magazine's person of the year in 2001. (He withdrew from contention… he's far too modest.)
